Top three cruise ports in the world
Port Canaveral was ranked among the top three cruise ports in the world, according to preliminary multiday cruise passenger data from the 2014 fiscal year.
The port reports 3.86 million multiday cruise passengers in fiscal 2014, ranking No. 3 behind Port Miami at No. 1 and Port Everglades at No. 2. The port was previously the world's second-busiest cruise port in financial years 2012 and 2013 due to record growth.
When ranked by total passenger traffic, which includes day trips and gaming ship as well as cruise ship traffic, Port Canaveral would rank No. 2 with 4.16 million passengers.
Meanwhile, Port Canaveral is undergoing a $500 million-plus cargo and cruise expansion that could net billions of dollars in new economic impact and more than 15,000 new jobs.
In addition, the port is nearing completion on its new Cruise Terminal 1, a 187,500-square-foot facility that will be the primary terminal for the Royal Caribbean cruise line at the port.
