Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the brainchild of two brothers Koop and ray Ferwerda. The excavator was created In the 1940's during WWII, when there was a shortage of labourers. Partners in a Cleveland, Ohio construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when lots of men left the workforce and joined the military, depleting available workers for the delicate grading and finishing work on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to make an equipment which would save their company by making the slope grading task easier, more efficient and less manual.

The very first excavator prototype consisted of a device with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a used truck. There was a telescopic cylinder that was utilized to move the beams back and forth. This allowed the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to push or pull the dirt. Shortly enhancing the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to be able to add more strength. In addition, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.

Gradall launched in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their equipment since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to provide comparable power and high productivity to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the initial Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems effectively handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their lifting and digging ability. These versions were made with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed great improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to be able to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the task at hand. This makes the operator's whole task easier and likewise conserves fuel simultaneously.
